10th Boston Turkish Documentary and Short Film Competition started with the screening of “Motör: Remake Remix Ripoff” by director Cem Kaya at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. The screening created a big splash for the competition opening night and ended with a long-lasting applause by the audience. The competition opening reception followed the film screening, attended by guests, film enthusiasts, film critics, and directors.

The first of its kind in North America and celebrating its 10th year, the competition has transformed to a tradition and has received a remarkable international attention.  More than 40 films are screened in this year’s program at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston,  Goethe-Institut Boston, and Boston University. In this rare opportunity, film enthusiasts in Boston are able  to explore works of the young filmmakers first hand.

In an article published in Boston Globe newspaper, “Homage to Turkish Films”, mentioned the competition and stated that as demonstrated by the Boston Turkish Festival’s Documentary and Short Film Competition for the past 10 years, young filmmakers from that country have been exploring its rich history, diverse culture, creative ferment, and fascinating oddities.

This year more than 350 films were submitted to the competition and 40 were selected as finalists, which are screened throughout the competition. In addition to the jury, audience will also be able to vote for the “Audience Awards”. Winners of best film awards in the competition will meet again with the cineasts at the 15th Boston Turkish Film Festival in March 2016.
